City of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Building Safety Department Implements MobileHWY's Mobile Solution for Government Agencies, Mobile INSPECTOR™

Charlotte, NC (PRWEB) December 17, 2006 -- MobileHWY announced today that the City of Fayetteville, Arkansas, has implemented its Mobile INSPECTOR™ field automation solution for governments. The Planning, Development & Building Safety Department deployed the mobile workforce solution to increase overall efficiency and enhance customer service.

Located in Washington County, the City of Fayetteville is the third most populous city in Arkansas. According to a special census conducted in 2006, the population has grown by 15.5 percent since 2000 and housing units have grown by 23 percent.

As growth in the area continues to increase, the Planning, Development & Building Safety Department performs an average of 200 inspections each day. To manage the steady workload, the city implemented Hansen as its recording keeping system to better track permits and inspection requests. Inspectors' daily itineraries and workload, however, were still managed via traditional paper-based processes and had proven to be very cumbersome.

The city's main goal was to provide the best quality of service to its building community; part of which it attributed to the speed of its service and communication. Typically inspectors would come in to the office each morning to get their schedules for the day, then head out in the field to perform the inspection requests. At the end of each day, inspectors would come back to the office to enter inspection results into the Hansen system; adding unnecessary hours of administrative work. Inspection results and project information were only available to the building community once that information was entered into the system. "Our goal was to expedite this process and make inspection activity information more readily available to our customers," states Steve Cattaneo, Building Safety Director for the City of Fayetteville.

To achieve this goal, the city worked with MobileHWY to implement a mobile solution for its inspectors that would streamline the inspection process. The city equipped its field inspectors with BlackBerries® and MobileHWY's application, which allows them access to critical project information in the field. Inspectors are able to download their itineraries to their BlackBerry®, view permit and inspection history, perform inspection requests and immediately transmit the results back to the office.

By automating these processes, city inspectors have been able to spend more time in the field each day performing inspections and less time in the office on administrative duties. Inspection information and results are also now transmitted in real-time from the field back to the office, making critical project information immediately available to the building community. "Mobile INSPECTOR™ has significantly impacted our productivity as well as the service we provide to our customers," states Steve Cattaneo.
